**Non-digital** refers to anything that is not based on [[digital technology|computing]].

Even though Permacomputing is mostly concerned of digital computing, it does
not want to narrow-mindedly advocate computing for purposes where feasible
non-digital solutions also exist. Instead, in cases like these, the pros and
cons of digital and non-digital should be considered. Often, it may be wise
to choose both rather than either.

Examples:

* [[Microform]]s, based on miniaturized photography, is a well-established technology for long-term document storage. In proper conditions, a microfilm or microfiche can last hundreds of years, and the hardware required for viewing the documents can be extremely simple (a couple of lenses).
* [[Radio]] is a means of long-distance real-time communication that is technologically rather simple and requires no networking infrastructure.
