1 Welcome to the [[Permacomputing]] wiki! 2 3 4 5 Permacomputing is both a concept and a community of practice 6 oriented around issues of resilience and regenerativity in computer and 7 network technology inspired by permaculture. ପໄଓ☾☼✫ -☆:*´ 8 9 There are huge environmental and societal issues in today's computing, 10 and permacomputing specifically wants to challenge them in the same way as 11 permaculture has challenged industrial agriculture. With that said, permacomputing is 12 an anti-capitalist political project. It is driven by several strands of anarchism, 13 decoloniality, intersectional feminism, post-marxism, degrowth, ecologism. 14 15 Permacomputing is also a utopian ideal that needs a lot of rethinking, 16 rebuilding and technical design work to put in practice. This is why a lot 17 of material on this wiki is highly technical. 18 19 Most importantly, there is no permacomputing kit to buy. See permacomputing as 20 invitation to collectively and radically rethink computational culture. It is not a 21 tech solution searching for a problem. You are free to start your own 22 initiative and use the term permacomputing, however please make sure you 23 understand the purpose and ethos of this project :) 24 25 For more information: 26 27 * [[A longer introduction|Permacomputing]] 28 * [[Principles|principles]] for using and designing computational systems 29 * [[Issues]] in today's computing 30 31 Resources: 32 33 * [[Getting Started]] - a starter's manual of some sort 34 * [[Library]] - texts and media about and around permacomputing 35 * [[Projects]] - selection of projects affiliated with or adjacent to permacomputing 36 * [[Assessments]] - review and analysis of existing and established pieces of technology 37 * [[Workshop]] - collection of reproducible experiments 38 39 Network: 40 41 * [[Community]] - meet, work, organise and discuss with us!
